Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information TeddyReads (“TeddyReads,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects when you use our service, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. TeddyReads creates personalized, illustrated children’s picture books from a photo or description you provide, narrates them aloud, and optionally prints and ships physical copies.

1. Who this applies to

TeddyReads accounts are created and used by parents and guardians only. Children do not create accounts, sign in, or provide any information to us directly. Any information about a child, a name, age, photo, or physical description, is provided to us by the parent or guardian who created the book, on that child’s behalf.

2. Information we collect

We collect the following, depending on how you use TeddyReads:

  • Account information: your email address, used to sign in (directly, or via “Sign in with Google”)
  • Child details you provide: a name, age, personality traits, and either a photo or a written description (hair color, eye color, etc.) used to personalize the story and illustrations. A photo is deleted once the book is finished.
  • Voice recordings, if you choose to clone a voice for narration
  • Story content: the books you create, including generated text, illustrations, and narration audio, stored so you can come back and read them later
  • Payment information, if you make a purchase, handled entirely by our payment processor (see below); we never see or store your full card details
  • Shipping address, if you order a printed book
  • Usage data: basic analytics about how the app is used (e.g. which pages are visited), collected automatically

3. How we use your information

  • To generate the personalized story, illustrations, and narration you request
  • To create and maintain your account, and let you come back to books you’ve made
  • To process payments and fulfill printed book orders
  • To communicate with you about your orders or account
  • To understand how TeddyReads is used, so we can improve it

We do not use a child’s photo, voice recording, or any personal details to train AI models, and we don’t sell personal information to anyone, ever.

4. Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers that help us actually run TeddyReads, each only for the specific purpose below, and never for advertising or resale:

  • Supabase, for account authentication, our database, and file storage
  • Anthropic, to generate story text (a submitted photo is included when writing appearance details into the story)
  • Google, to generate illustrations from your photo or description
  • ElevenLabs, for premium narration voices and voice cloning, when you use those features
  • Microsoft, for the free default narration voice
  • Stripe, to process payments
  • Lulu, a print-on-demand partner, to produce and ship printed books, receiving only the finished book files and the shipping address for that order
  • PostHog, for basic product analytics

Each of these providers processes data under their own privacy terms and only receives what they need to perform their specific function. We don’t permit any of them to use your data for their own purposes.

5. What we never do with your data

We do not, under any circumstance:

  • Use your data, or a child’s data, for targeted or personalized advertising
  • Use your photos, voice recordings, or personal details to train AI or machine learning models, ours or anyone else’s
  • Sell or rent your data to data brokers or any other third party
  • Use your data for credit assessment, lending decisions, or any similar financial evaluation
  • Build or contribute to databases for purposes unrelated to providing you the TeddyReads service

6. Children’s privacy

TeddyReads is a tool for parents and guardians, not a service directed at children. We don’t knowingly collect information directly from a child, and children never interact with our systems on their own. Any information about a child that we hold was provided by their parent or guardian, who can request its deletion at any time (see below).

7. Data retention and deletion

An uploaded photo is deleted as soon as the book it was used for is finished. It is needed only once, to create the character design the illustrations are drawn from. Everything else (your account, your books, their illustrations and narration) is kept for as long as your account is active, so you can come back to your books whenever you like. You can delete any book yourself from your library, which permanently removes the book along with its illustrations, its narration audio and any print-ready files. To delete your whole account and everything in it, email us at [email protected] and we'll take care of it.

8. Your choices

  • A photo is optional, you can describe hair, eye, and skin color in words instead
  • Voice cloning is optional, TeddyReads’s built-in narration is free and available on every book
  • You can request a copy of your data, or its deletion, at any time by emailing us

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information you provide: data is encrypted in transit over HTTPS/TLS, stored in our database and file storage provider’s access-controlled infrastructure, and payment details are handled entirely by Stripe’s own PCI-compliant systems, they never pass through or get stored on our servers. That said, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above.
