About that photo

You’re sending a picture of your child. Here’s exactly what happens to it.

We delete it when the book is done

The photo is used once, to draw your child’s character. As soon as the book is finished it’s deleted from our records. You keep the book; we don’t keep the photo.

It trains nothing

While we have it, your photo illustrates your book and does nothing else. Never used to train a model, never sold, never shown to another user.

It’s tied to your account alone

It’s used only to personalize their illustrations, and only your account can ever see it or the book it becomes.

The account is yours, not theirs

Only a parent or guardian creates an account, uploads anything, or pays. Children never sign in, and nothing is public.

Before you start

Questions parents ask

Are these templates with my child’s name dropped in?

No. Each occasion gives you a starting point, but the story is written from scratch for your child, using their age, their name, what they’re into, and whatever you tell us in the chat. Two children who pick the same occasion get two different books.

What age is this for?

Any age. You tell us how old your child is, and both the story and the language adjust to fit.

Will the character actually look like my child?

Yes, that's the whole point. You send one photo, and their hair, eyes and colouring are carried into every illustration, so the same recognisable child appears on all 24 pages, not a different character each time. Photo optional, though: describe them instead and we'll illustrate from that. And since your first full book is free, you see the real illustrated character and the whole story before paying for anything.

What happens to my child’s photo?

It’s deleted once the book is finished. The photo is used once, to draw your child’s character design. After that every page is drawn from that design, not from the photo, so we don’t need it any more and we don’t keep it. While we do have it, it’s never used to train a model, never sold, and never shown to another user. You can also skip the photo entirely and just describe their hair and eye colour instead.

Do I have to upload a photo?

No. A photo just helps the illustrations look more like your child, but it's entirely optional. If you'd rather not send one, just describe their hair colour, eye colour, and anything else that stands out, and we'll illustrate from that instead.

How long does it take?

A few minutes from photo to finished, illustrated storybook, narration included.

Can I make the book in Spanish?

Yes. TeddyReads is fully bilingual: the whole app, the story itself, and the read-aloud narration are all available in English or Spanish, with Latin American Spanish narrators. Switch language at the top of any page before you start, and your book is written in whichever language you’re using. More languages are planned.

How long does shipping take for a printed book?

Shown at checkout based on your address before you pay, no surprises.

What happens after the first free book?

Most families come back for another one, a book each for siblings, one for a birthday, a first day of school, a new baby. Every book after the first is $4.99 flat, no subscription, and any voice you’ve recorded is reused on all of them automatically.
